Chapter on Nullifiers of Ablution – Clarification that the command to perform ablution from food touched by fire was abrogated except for camel meat
Hadith 1154
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ الْعَقَدِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَوْرٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، أَنَّ رَجُلا سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَنَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ لُحُومِ الْغَنَمِ ؟ قَالَ : " إِنْ شِئْتَ فَتَوَضَّأْ ، وَإِنْ شِئْتَ فَلا تَتَوَضَّأْ " . قَالَ : أَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ لُحُومِ الإِبِلِ ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ ، تَوَضَّأْ مِنْ لُحُومِ الإِبِلِ " . قَالَ : أُصَلِّي فِي مَرَابِضِ الْغَنَمِ ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ " . قَالَ : أُصَلِّي فِي مَبَارِكِ الإِبِلِ ؟ قَالَ : " لا " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man asked the Prophet (peace be upon him), he said: O Messenger of Allah! Should I perform ablution after eating goat meat? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: If you wish, perform ablution, and if you wish, do not perform ablution. He asked: Should I perform ablution after eating camel meat? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Yes, perform ablution after eating camel meat. I asked: Can I pray in sheep pens? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Yes. He asked: Can I pray in camel enclosures? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: No.
