Chapter on Nullifiers of Ablution – Report that may mislead the unskilled in hadith science into thinking it abrogates or opposes the command mentioned
Hadith 1132
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حِبَّانُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُنْكَدِرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ: " أَكَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ لَحْمٍ ، وَمَعَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ ، ثُمَّ قَامُوا إِلَى الصَّفِّ وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّئُوا " . قَالَ جَابِرٌ : " ثُمَّ شَهِدْتُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ أَكَلَ طَعَامًا ، ثُمَّ قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلاةِ وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ . " ثُمَّ شَهِدْتُ عُمَرَ أَكَلَ مِنْ جَفْنَةٍ ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّى وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ate meat, and with him were Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Then these gentlemen stood up for prayer. They did not perform ablution again. Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Then I was also with Sayyiduna Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him). He ate meat, then stood up for prayer and did not perform ablution again. Then once I was also present with Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). He ate from a bowl and stood up to perform prayer and did not perform ablution again.
