Chapter on the Nullifiers of Ablution - Report indicating that washing the penis for pre-seminal fluid does not suffice for prayer without ablution, but ablution suffices for the garment
Hadith 1103
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ السَّبَّاقِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ أَلْقَى مِنَ الْمَذْيِ شِدَّةً ، فَكُنْتُ أُكْثِرُ الاغْتِسَالَ مِنْهُ ، فَسَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّمَا يُجْزِئُكَ مِنْهُ الْوُضُوءُ " . فَقُلْتُ : فَكَيْفَ بِمَا يُصِيبُ ثَوْبِي مِنْهُ ؟ قَالَ : " يَكْفِيكَ أَنْ تَأْخُذَ كَفًّا مِنْ مَاءٍ فَتَنْضَحَ بِهَا مِنْ ثَوْبِكَ حَيْثُ تَرَى أَنَّهُ أَصَابَهُ " .
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hunaif (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I used to face difficulty because of madhi (pre-seminal fluid). Because of it, I had to perform ghusl frequently. I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this, and he said: It is sufficient for you to perform wudu because of it. I asked: If it gets on my clothes, then what should I do? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is sufficient for you to take some water in your hand and sprinkle it on the place on your clothes where you see it has gotten.
