Chapter on the Sunnahs of Ablution - Recommendation to use fresh water for wiping the head
Hadith 1085
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ سَلْمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ حَبَّانَ بْنِ وَاسِعٍ ، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ حَدَّثَهُ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ زَيْدِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ الْمَازِنِيَّ يَذْكُرُ ، " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَوَضَّأَ فَتَمَضْمَضَ وَاسْتَنْثَرَ ، ثُمَّ غَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلاثًا ، وَيَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى ثَلاثًا ، وَالأُخْرَى مِثْلَهَا ، وَمَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ بِمَاءٍ غَيْرِ فَضْلِ يَدِهِ ، وَغَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ حَتَّى أَنْقَاهُمَا " .
Hibban bin Wasi’ narrates from his father that he heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zayd bin Asim Mazni (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioning that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution. He rinsed his mouth and put water into his nose, then washed his blessed face three times. He washed his right arm three times, and the other one likewise (three times). He wiped his head without taking extra water apart from what was on his hand, and he washed both his feet until he had cleaned them thoroughly.
