Chapter on the Sunnahs of Ablution - Clarification that rubbing the arms is required when water is scarce
Hadith 1083
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ زُهَيْرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، " أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُتِيَ بِثُلُثَيْ مُدٍّ مَاءً ، فَتَوَضَّأَ فَجَعَلَ يَدْلُكُ ذِرَاعَيْهِ " .
Ubad bin Tamim narrates this statement from his uncle, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him): Two-thirds of a mudd of water was brought to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). He performed ablution, and he joined his two arms together.
