Chapter on the Obligation of Ablution - The reason for the command to perfect ablution
Hadith 1055
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ هِلالِ بْنِ يَسَافٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي يَحْيَى ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، قَالَ : رَجَعْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، مِنْ مَكَّةَ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ ، حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِبَعْضِ الطَّرِيقِ ، تَعَجَّلَ قَوْمٌ عِنْدَ الْعَصْرِ ، فَتَوَضَّؤُوا وَهُمْ عِجَالٌ ، قَالَ : فَانْتَهَيْنَا إِلَيْهِمْ ، وَأَعْقَابُهُمْ تَلُوحُ ، لَمْ يَمَسَّهَا الْمَاءُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " وَيْلٌ لِلأَعْقَابِ مِنَ النَّارِ ، أَسْبِغُوا الْوُضُوءَ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were returning with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) from Makkah to Madinah. On the way, at a certain place, some people hurried ahead at the time of Asr prayer. In their haste, they began to perform ablution quickly. Sayyiduna Abdullah narrates: When we reached those people, their (heels) were dry and shining, water had not touched them. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Woe to these heels from the Hellfire! Perform ablution thoroughly.
