Chapter on the Obligation of Ablution - Command to wash between the fingers during ablution
Hadith 1054
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ لَقِيطِ بْنِ صَبِرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ وَافِدَ بَنِي الْمُنْتَفِقِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَدِمْنَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَمْ نُصَادِفْهُ فِي مَنْزِلِهِ ، وَصَادَفْنَا عَائِشَةَ ، فَأَمَرَتْ لَنَا بِخَزِيرَةٍ فَصُنِعَتْ ، وَأَتَتْنَا بِقِنَاعٍ وَالْقِنَاعُ الطَّبَقُ فِيهِ التَّمْرُ فَأَكَلْنَا ، فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " هَلْ أَصَبْتُمْ شَيْئًا ؟ أَوْ آمُرُ لَكُمْ بِشَيْءٍ ؟ " قُلْنَا : نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ . فَبَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جُلُوسٌ ، إِذْ رَفَعَ الرَّاعِي غَنَمَهُ إِلَى الْمُرَاحِ وَمَعَهُ سَخْلَةٌ تَيْعَرُ ، فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا وَلَّدْتَ ؟ " قَالَ : بَهْمَةٌ ، قَالَ : " اذْبَحْ مَكَانَهَا شَاةً " ، ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيَّ ، فَقَالَ : " لا تَحْسِبَنَّ وَلَمْ يَقُلْ : لا تَحْسَبَنَّ أَنَّا مِنْ أَجَلِكَ ذَبَحْنَاهَا ، إِنَّ لَنَا غَنَمًا مِائَةً لا تَزِيدُ ، فَمَا وَلَدَتْ بَهْمَةً ذَبَحْنَا مَكَانَهَا شَاةً " . قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ لِيَ امْرَأَةً فِي لِسَانِهَا شَيْءٌ . قَالَ : " فَطَلِّقْهَا إِذَا " . قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ لِي مِنْهَا وَلَدًا ، وَلَهَا صُحْبَةً ، قَالَ : " عِظْهَا ، فَإِنْ يَكُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ ، فَسَتَقْبَلُ ، وَلا تَضْرِبْ ظَعِينَتَكَ ضَرْبَكَ أَمَتَكَ " . قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَخْبِرْنِي عَنِ الْوُضُوءِ ، قَالَ : " أَسْبِغِ الْوُضُوءَ ، وَخَلِّلْ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِكَ ، وَبَالِغْ فِي الاسْتِنْشَاقِ إِلا أَنْ تَكُونَ صَائِمًا " .
Asim bin Laqit bin Sabrah narrates from his father: I was included in the delegation of Banu Muthaffiq that presented itself before the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). We went to the service of the Prophet (peace be upon him), but did not find him at his house. We had gone to the house of Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). She had ordered khazirah to be prepared for us. When it was ready, she brought a tray of dates to us. We were eating them. Meanwhile, the Prophet (peace be upon him) arrived. He asked: Have you eaten anything, or should I order something for you? We replied: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. We were sitting with the Prophet (peace be upon him). Meanwhile, a shepherd was taking the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) goats towards their enclosure. There was a goat with him that was making a sound. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked: Has it given birth? He replied: Yes, a kid has been born. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Slaughter a goat in place of the kid. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) turned to us and said: Do not think that we are slaughtering it because of you. We have one hundred goats. They do not increase beyond this. Whenever a kid is born, we slaughter a goat in its place. The narrator says: I said: O Messenger of Allah! I have a wife whose tongue is somewhat sharp. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Then divorce her. The narrator says: I said: O Messenger of Allah! I have a child from her, and we have been together for a long time. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Advise her; if there is goodness in her, she will accept it. However, do not beat your wife as a slave girl is beaten. The narrator says: I said: O Messenger of Allah! Tell me about ablution. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Perform ablution well, pass water between your fingers, and rinse your nose thoroughly, except if you are fasting (then the ruling is different).
