Chapter on the Virtue of Ablution - Clarification that Satan may tie knots on the ablution parts as he does on the head during sleep
Hadith 1052
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، أَنَّ أَبَا عُشَّانَةَ حَدَّثَهُ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُقْبَةَ بْنَ عَامِرٍ ، يَقُولُ : لا أَقُولُ الْيَوْمَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا لَمْ يَقُلْ . سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " مَنْ كَذَبَ عَلَيَّ مُتَعَمِّدًا فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ بَيْتًا مِنْ جَهَنَّمَ " . وَسَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " رَجُلٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي يَقُومُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ يُعَالِجُ نَفْسَهُ إِلَى الطَّهُورِ ، وَعَلَيْكُمْ عُقَدٌ ، فَإِذَا وَضَّأَ يَدَيْهِ انْحَلَّتْ عُقْدَةٌ ، فَإِذَا وَضَّأَ وَجْهَهُ انْحَلَّتْ عُقْدَةٌ ، وَإِذَا مَسَحَ رَأْسَهُ انْحَلَّتْ عُقْدَةٌ ، وَإِذَا وَضَّأَ رِجْلَيْهِ انْحَلَّتْ عُقْدَةٌ ، فَيَقُولُ اللَّهُ جَلَّ وَعَلا لِلَّذِي وَرَاءَ الْحِجَابِ : انْظُرُوا إِلَى عَبْدِي هَذَا يُعَالِجُ نَفْسَهُ لَيَسْأَلَنِي ، مَا سَأَلَنِي عَبْدِي هَذَا ، فَهُوَ لَهُ ، مَا سَأَلَنِي عَبْدِي هَذَا ، فَهُوَ لَهُ " .
Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I am not narrating anything today regarding the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) except what he himself said. I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever deliberately attributes something to me which I did not say, let him prepare his abode in Hell." Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) also said: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "A person from my Ummah stands up at night to perform ablution while knots are tied upon you people. When he washes his hands, one knot is untied; when he washes his face, one knot is untied; when he wipes his head, one knot is untied; when he washes his feet, one knot is untied. Then Allah Almighty, from the other side of the veil, says: 'Look at My servant who is preparing himself to ask from Me.' Whatever My servant asks from Me, he will be granted; whatever My servant asks from Me, he will be granted."
