Chapter on the Virtue of Ablution - Clarification that Allah forgives the sins of one who avoids major sins
Hadith 1044
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ هِشَامُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْعَاصِ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ مَعَ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ ، فَدَعَا بِطَهُورٍ ، فَقَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " مَا مِنِ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ تَحْضُرُهُ الصَّلاةُ الْمَكْتُوبَةُ فَيُحْسِنُ وُضُوءَهَا وَرُكُوعَهَا وَخُشُوعَهَا ، إِلا كَانَتْ كَفَّارَةً لِمَا قَبْلَهَا مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ ، مَا لَمْ يَأْتِ كَبِيرَةً ، وَذَلِكَ الدَّهْرَ كُلَّهُ " .
Ishaq bin Saeed narrates from his father, who reports from his grandfather: Once I was with Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). He called for water to perform ablution, then said: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whenever the time for an obligatory prayer comes upon any Muslim, and he performs ablution well, performs bowing well, and offers the prayer with humility, then this prayer becomes an expiation for his previous sins, as long as he does not commit a major sin. And this (virtue) is always available."
