Chapter on the Virtue of Ablution - Sins are removed and ranks raised by perfecting ablution despite hardship
Hadith 1038
أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ الْجُمَحِيُّ ، بِالْبَصْرَةِ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ الْعَلاءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " أَلا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِمَا يَمْحُو اللَّهُ بِهِ الْخَطَايَا وَيَرْفَعُ بِهِ الدَّرَجَاتِ ؟ إِسْبَاغُ الْوُضُوءُ عَلَى الْمَكَارِهِ ، وَكَثْرَةُ الْخُطَا إِلَى الْمَسَاجِدِ ، وَانْتِظَارُ الصَّلاةِ بَعْدَ الصَّلاةِ ، فَذَلِكُمُ الرِّبَاطُ ، فَذَلِكُمُ الرِّبَاطُ ، فَذَلِكُمُ الرِّبَاطُ " . قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ : مَعْنَاهُ الرِّبَاطُ مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ ، لأَنَّ الْوُضُوءَ يُكَفِّرُ الذُّنُوبَ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Shall I not tell you about something through which Allah wipes away sins and raises ranks? Performing ablution properly when it is difficult for the self, walking with more steps towards the mosque, and waiting for one prayer after another prayer—this is preparedness, this is preparedness, this is preparedness.” (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Its meaning is guarding against sins, because ablution removes sins.
