Chapter of Seeking Refuge - Report confirming our interpretation of the mentioned debt
Hadith 1027
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بُجَيْرٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ السَّرْحِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي حُيَيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ الْحُبُلِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَدْعُو : " اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَظُلْمَنَا ، وَهَزْلَنَا وَجِدَّنَا وَعَمْدَنَا ، وَكُلُّ ذَلِكَ عِنْدَنَا . اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ غَلَبَةِ الدَّيْنِ ، وَغَلَبَةِ الْعِبَادِ ، وَشَمَاتَةِ الأَعْدَاءِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates about the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that he used to make this supplication: "O Allah! Forgive our sins, excesses, jesting, seriousness, and whatever (shortcomings) occur from us intentionally (in short, every kind of shortcoming from our side). O Allah! I seek Your protection from the dominance of debt, the dominance of people, and the gloating of enemies."
