Chapter of Seeking Refuge - What to say in the evening to be protected from snake bites
Hadith 1021
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنَّ رَجُلا مِنْ أَسْلَمَ ، قَالَ : مَا نِمْتُ هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةَ . فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ ؟ " قَالَ : لَدَغَتْنِي عَقْرَبٌ ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَمَا إِنَّكَ لَوْ قُلْتَ حِينَ أَمْسَيْتَ : أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ ، لَمْ يَضُرَّكَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man from the tribe of Aslam said, "I could not sleep last night." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Why is that?" He replied, "A scorpion stung me." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "If you had recited these words in the evening: 'I seek refuge in Allah from the evil of what He has created,' then, inshaAllah, that (scorpion) would not have harmed you."
