Chapter of Seeking Refuge - Command to seek refuge in Allah from Satan when donkeys bray
Hadith 1005
أَخْبَرَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الطَّاحِيُّ الْعَابِدُ ، بِالْبَصْرَةِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ نَصْرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْمُقْرِئُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ الأَعْرَجُ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ أَصْوَاتَ الدِّيَكَةِ ، فَإِنَّهَا رَأَتْ مَلَكًا ، فَاسْأَلُوا اللَّهَ ، وَارْغَبُوا إِلَيْهِ ، وَإِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ نُهَاقَ الْحَمِيرِ ، فَإِنَّهَا رَأَتْ شَيْطَانًا ، فَاسْتَعِيذُوا بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا رَأَتْ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you hear the crowing of a rooster, it has seen an angel, so ask Allah from His bounty at that time and turn towards Him with desire. And when you hear the braying of a donkey, it has seen a devil. At that time, seek refuge with Allah from its evil, that which it (the donkey) has seen (i.e., the devil)."
