Chapter of Supplications - Permissibility of supplicating for others for abundance in wealth and children
Hadith 990
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو حَاتِمٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الثَّقَفِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَكْرٍ السَّهْمِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ الطَّوِيلُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى أُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ ، فَأَتَتْهُ بِتَمْرٍ وَسَمْنٍ ، فَقَالَ : " أَعِيدُوا سَمْنَكُمْ فِي سِقَائِهِ ، وَتَمْرَكُمْ فِي وِعَائِهِ ، فَإِنِّي صَائِمٌ " . فَصَلَّى صَلاةً غَيْرَ مَكْتُوبَةٍ ، وَصَلَّيْنَا مَعَهُ ، فَدَعَا لأُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ وَأَهْلِ بَيْتِهَا ، فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ لِي خُوَيْصَةً ، قَالَ : " مَا هِيَ يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ ؟ " ، قَالَتْ : خَادِمُكَ أَنَسٌ . فَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْرِ الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ ، وَقَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْهُ مَالا وَوَلَدًا ، وَبَارِكْ لَهُ " . قَالَ : فَإِنِّي مِنْ أَكْثَرِ النَّاسِ وَلَدًا ، قَالَ : وَأَخْبَرَتْنِي ابْنَتِي أُمَيْنَةُ أَنَّهَا دَفَنَتْ مِنْ صُلْبِي إِلَى مَقْدِمِ الْحَجَّاجِ الْبَصْرَةَ بِضْعًا وَعِشْرِينَ وَمِائَةً .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) visited Lady Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her). She brought dates and ghee to serve him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Put your ghee back in its container and your dates back in their container, for I am fasting." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed voluntary prayer. We also prayed behind him in congregation. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called Lady Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) and the members of her household. Lady Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have a request." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Umm Sulaym! What is it?" She said: "Your servant Anas (please supplicate for him)." (Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates:) So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated for me for goodness in this world and the Hereafter. (He supplicated:) "O Allah! Grant him wealth and children, and bless him in them." Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Among the people, I have the most children. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: My daughter Amina has informed me that, until Hajjaj became governor of Basra, one hundred and twenty of my descendants (children and grandchildren) had passed away.
