Chapter of Supplications - Prohibition of saying “O Allah, forgive me if You will” in supplication
Hadith 977
أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الأَنْمَاطِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لا يَقُلْ أَحَدُكُمُ : اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي إِنْ شِئْتَ ، فَإِنَّهُ لا مُسْتَكْرِهَ لَهُ ، وَلَكِنْ لِيَعْزِمِ الْمَسْأَلَةَ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates this statement of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him: "No person should say: O Allah! If You will, then help me! Because there is none who can compel Allah. A person should ask with full confidence."
