Chapter of Supplications - What to supplicate in times of hardship and distress
Hadith 968
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَرُوبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " لا يَتَمَنَّيَنَّ أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَوْتَ لِضُرٍّ نَزَلَ بِهِ ، فَإِنْ كَانَ لا بُدَّ فَاعِلا فَلْيَقُلْ : أَحْيِنِي مَا كَانَتِ الْحَيَاةُ خَيْرًا لِي ، وَتَوَفَّنِي إِذَا كَانَتِ الْوَفَاةُ خَيْرًا لِي " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates about the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): He said: No person should ever wish for death because of any hardship that befalls him. If he must do so, then he should say: "O Allah! Keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and give me death when death is better for me."
