Chapter of Supplications - The master supplication for forgiveness for one’s sins
Hadith 932
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ ذَكْوَانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ بَشِيرِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ ، عَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " سَيِّدُ الاسْتِغْفَارِ أَنْ يَقُولَ الْعَبْدُ : اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي ، وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ ، لا إِلَهَ إِلا أَنْتَ ، خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ ، أَصْبَحْتُ عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ ، وَأَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ ، وَأَبُوءُ لَكَ بِذُنُوبِي ، فَاغْفِرْ لِي ، إِنَّهُ لا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلا أَنْتَ " .
Sayyiduna Shaddad bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The chief of seeking forgiveness (Sayyid al-Istighfar) is that a servant says: 'O Allah! You are my Lord, there is no deity except You. You created me and I am Your servant. I am upon Your covenant and promise as much as I am able. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your favor upon me, and I acknowledge my sins, so forgive me. Surely, none forgives sins except You.'"
