Chapter on Supplications – On the reason for this instruction
Hadith 896
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْبُخَارِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي خَالِي مَالِكٌ ، عَنِ الْعَلاءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِذَا دَعَا أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيُعْظِمِ الرَّغْبَةَ ، فَإِنَّهُ لا يَتَعَاظَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ شَيْءٌ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "When a person supplicates, he should be abundant in his asking, for nothing is great (i.e., difficult) for Allah Almighty."
