Chapter on Supplications – On what to say when sighting the new moon for the first time
Hadith 888
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْمَرْوَزِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَاطِبٍ ، حدثني أبي عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، وَعَنْ عَمِّهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا رَأَى الْهِلالَ ، قَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ أَهِلَّهُ عَلَيْنَا بِالأَمْنِ وَالإِيمَانِ ، وَالسَّلامَةِ وَالإِسْلامِ ، وَالتَّوْفِيقِ لِمَا نُحِبُّ وَتَرْضَى ، رَبُّنَا وَرَبُّكَ اللَّهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) would see the new moon, he would supplicate: "O Allah! Let this moon rise upon us with security, faith, safety, and Islam, and with that which You love and are pleased with. (O moon!) Our Lord and your Lord is Allah, the Exalted."
