Chapter on Remembrance – On the command to declare Allah’s oneness, glorify, and praise Him in times of hardship or distress
Hadith 865
أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ بْنِ وَرْدَانَ ، بِالْفُسْطَاطِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلانَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ الْقُرَظِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : لَقَّنَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَؤُلاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ ، وَأَمَرَنِي إِنْ أَصَابَنِي كَرْبٌ أَوْ شِدَّةٌ أَقُولُهُنَّ : " لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ الْحَلِيمُ الْكَرِيمُ ، سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ " .
Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) taught me some words. He instructed me that whenever I am afflicted with any pain or hardship, I should recite these words: "There is no deity except Allah, the Forbearing, the Honorable. Allah is free from all defects, blessed is He, the Lord of the Great Throne. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds."
