Chapter on Remembrance – On the command to glorify Allah as much as His creation, the weight of His Throne, and the ink of His words
Hadith 828
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، مَوْلَى آلِ طَلْحَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ كُرَيْبًا يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنْ جُوَيْرِيَةَ بِنْتِ الْحَارِثِ ، قَالَتْ : أَتَى عَلَيَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا أُسَبِّحُ ، ثُمَّ انْطَلَقَ لِحَاجَتِهِ ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَ مِنْ نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ ، فَقَالَ : " مَا زِلْتِ قَاعِدَةً ؟ " ، قَالَتْ : قُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : " أَلا أُعَلِّمُكِ كَلِمَاتٍ لَوْ عُدِلْنَ بِهِنَّ عَدَلَتْهُنَّ ، أَوْ لَوْ وُزِنَّ بِهِنَّ وَزَنَتْهُنَّ ؟ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَدَدَ خَلْقِهِ ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ، سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ زِنَةَ عَرْشِهِ ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ، سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ رِضَا نَفْسِهِ ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ، سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ مِدَادَ كَلِمَاتِهِ ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ " .
Sayyida Juwayriya bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) came to me while I was reciting tasbih. Then he left for his work, and when he returned at midday, he asked: Have you been sitting here since then? Sayyida Juwayriya (may Allah be pleased with her) replied: Yes! The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Shall I not teach you some words which, if they are combined with what you have recited, will be more (in reward), and if their weight is combined with the weight of what you have recited, they will be heavier? (These words are:) “«سبحان الله عدد خلقہ»” I declare the purity of Allah as many times as the number of His creation. Recite this three times. «سبحان الله زينة عرشہ» I declare the purity of Allah as much as the weight of His Throne. Recite this three times. «سبحان الله رضا نفسه» (I declare the purity of Allah as much as is pleasing to His Self.) Recite this three times. And «سبحان الله مداد كلماته» I declare the purity of Allah as much as the ink of His words. Recite this three times.
