Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty says: In the Torah and the Gospel, there is no Surah like Umm al-Qur'an (i.e., Surah al-Fatihah). This is the Sab‘ al-Mathani. It is divided between Me and My servant, and My servant will receive whatever he asks for." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The words of the narration, "There is nothing like Umm al-Qur'an (i.e., Surah al-Fatihah) in the Torah and the Gospel," mean that Allah Almighty does not grant as much reward to the reciter of the Torah and the Gospel as He grants to the reciter of Surah al-Fatihah. Because Allah Almighty, by His grace, has given this Ummah superiority over all other nations, and He has granted this Ummah more virtue for reciting His Word than He granted to other nations for reciting the Word revealed to them. And this is Allah Almighty's grace upon this Ummah, and for the other nations, it is His justice.
