Chapter on Recitation of the Quran – On the Prophet’s analogy of the diligent and negligent Quran reciter to tied camels
Hadith 765
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ مَثَلَ صَاحِبِ الْقُرْآنِ مَثَلُ صَاحِبِ الإِبِلِ الْمُعَقَّلَةِ ، إِنْ عَاهَدَ عَلَيْهَا ، عَقَلَهَا ، وَإِنْ أَطْلَقَهَا ذَهَبَتْ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The example of the one who knows (or memorizes) the Qur'an is like the owner of a tied camel; if he takes care of it, he will keep it restrained, but if he lets it go, it will run away."
