Chapter on Recitation of the Quran – On the Prophet’s analogy of the one who maintains Quran recitation to a man with tied camels
Hadith 764
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّمَا مَثَلُ صَاحِبِ الْقُرْآنِ كَصَاحِبِ الإِبِلِ الْمُعَقَّلَةِ ، إِنْ عَاهَدَ عَلَيْهَا أَمْسَكَهَا ، وَإِنْ أَطْلَقَهَا ذَهَبَتْ " .
Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The example of the one who acquires knowledge of the Qur'an is like the owner of a tied camel; if he pays attention to it, he will keep it restrained, and if he lets it go, it will run away."
