Chapter on Recitation of the Quran – On the warning against completing the Quran in less than three days, as this is closer to reflection and understanding
Hadith 758
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ الضَّرِيرُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلاءِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لا يَفْقَهُ مَنْ قَرَأَ الْقُرْآنَ فِي أَقَلَّ مِنْ ثَلاثٍ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever recites (i.e., the entire Qur'an) in less than three days has not understood it. (Or, that person does not possess understanding and comprehension)."
Hadith 759
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ الْبَزَّارُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ الْجَوْنِيِّ ، عَنْ جُنْدُبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، رَفَعَهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " اقْرَؤُوا الْقُرْآنَ مَا ائْتَلَفَتْ عَلَيْهِ قُلُوبُكُمْ ، فَإِذَا اخْتَلَفْتُمْ فِيهِ ، فَقُومُوا عَنْهُ " .
Sayyiduna Jundub bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates as a marfu’ hadith: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Continue reciting the Qur’an as long as your hearts are inclined towards it, and when your nature begins to become distracted, then get up (by stopping its recitation).”
