Abdur Rahman bin Aban narrates from his father: Once, Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) came out from Marwan at noon, so I thought that he must have gone to him for some important matter that Marwan wanted to ask him about. I asked Sayyiduna Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: He asked us about some things which we had heard from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). (Sayyiduna Zaid, may Allah be pleased with him, said) I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “May Allah make happy the one who hears a hadith from us and then conveys it to another, for sometimes the one who receives knowledge conveys it to someone more knowledgeable than himself, and sometimes the one who receives knowledge is not actually a scholar. There are three things about which a Muslim’s heart does not deceive: making deeds sincere for Allah, wishing well for the Muslim rulers, and sticking to their community, for their supplication encompasses those who are absent. Whoever’s intention is for the world, Allah will scatter his affairs and place poverty before his eyes, and he will get nothing from the world except what is written for him. And whoever’s intention is for the Hereafter, Allah will gather his affairs, place contentment in his heart, and the world will come to him humbled.”
