Hadith 647
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نَشِيطٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ بْنِ رُهَيْمٍ ، بَغْدَادِيٌّ ثِقَةٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا صَفْوَانُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي رَاشِدُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ حُمَيْدٍ السَّكُونِيِّ ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا بَعَثَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الْيَمَنِ ، خَرَجَ مَعَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُوصِيهِ مُعَاذٌ رَاكِبٌ ، وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَحْتَ رَاحِلَتِهِ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ ، قَالَ : " يَا مُعَاذُ ، إِنَّكَ عَسَى أَنْ لا تَلْقَانِي بَعْدَ عَامِي هَذَا ، لَعَلَّكَ أَنْ تَمُرَّ بِمَسْجِدِي وَقَبْرِي " فَبَكَى مُعَاذٌ خَشَعًا لِفِرَاقِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوَ الْمَدِينَةِ ، فقَالَ : " إِنَّ أَهْلَ بَيْتِي هَؤُلاءِ يَرَوْنَ أَنَّهُمْ أَوْلَى النَّاسِ بِي ، وَإِنَّ أَوْلَى النَّاسِ بِي الْمُتَّقُونَ ، مَنْ كَانُوا حَيْثُ كَانُوا ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي لا أُحِلُّ لَهُمْ فَسَادَ مَا أَصْلَحْتَ ، وَايْمُ اللَّهِ لَيَكْفُئُونَ أُمَّتِي عَنْ دِينِهَا كَمَا يُكْفَأُ الإِنَاءُ فِي الْبَطْحَاءِ " .
Sayyiduna Mu’adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him to Yemen, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out with him to give him advice. Sayyiduna Mu’adh was riding while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was walking on foot beneath his mount. When he finished, he said: “O Mu’adh! It may be that after this year you will not meet me again. It may be that this time you will pass by my grave and my mosque.” So Sayyiduna Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him) began to weep out of fear of separation from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned his attention towards Madinah and said: “My family thinks that they are closer to me than all other people, but in reality, those who are most pious are closest to me, whoever they may be and wherever they may be. O Allah! I do not declare lawful for them any corruption in that which You have declared righteous. By Allah! These people will fall upside down regarding the religion of my Ummah just as a vessel is turned upside down in the field.”
