Chapter on Repentance – Clarification that Mak’hool heard this narration from Umar ibn Na’im as he did from Usama
Hadith 627
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ ثَوْبَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ نُعَيْمٍ ، حَدَّثَهُمْ عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ سَلْمَانَ ، أَنَّ أَبَا ذَرٍّ ، حَدَّثَهُمْ أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ لِعَبْدِهِ مَا لَمْ يَقَعِ الْحِجَابُ " قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، وَمَا وُقُوعُ الْحِجَابِ ؟ قَالَ : " أَنْ تَمُوتَ النَّفْسُ وَهِيَ مُشْرِكَةٌ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Indeed, Allah Almighty continues to forgive His servant until the barrier occurs." The people asked: "O Messenger of Allah! What is meant by the occurrence of the barrier?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That a person dies in such a state that he is a polytheist."
