Chapter on Repentance – Clarification that Allah forgives the repentant as long as no barrier is placed by associating partners with Him
Hadith 626
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ عُتْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ ثَوْبَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ ، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ سَلْمَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو ذَرٍّ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ لِعَبْدِهِ مَا لَمْ يَقَعِ الْحِجَابُ " قِيلَ : وَمَا يَقَعُ الْحِجَابُ ؟ قَالَ : " أَنْ تَمُوتَ النَّفْسُ وَهِيَ مُشْرِكَةٌ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Indeed, Allah Almighty continues to forgive His servant until the barrier occurs." It was asked: "What is meant by the occurrence of the barrier?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is that a person dies in such a state that he is a polytheist."
