Chapter on Companionship and Sitting – Clarification that when gatherings are crowded, people should make space and not remove others from their seats
Hadith 586
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ الْجَرَادِيُّ بِالْمَوْصِلِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ زُرَيْقٍ الرَّسْعَنِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الصَّنْعَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : " نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُقِيمَ الرَّجُلُ الرَّجُلَ مِنْ مَقْعَدِهِ فَيَقْعُدَ فِيهِ ، وَلَكِنْ تَفَسَّحُوا وَتَوَسَّعُوا " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that a person should make another stand up from his place and then sit there himself. Rather, you should make room and accommodate each other.
