Abu Muslim Khawlani narrates: I said to Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him): By Allah! I love you, but not for any worldly reason from which I hope to gain something from you, nor is there any kinship between me and you because of which I love you. Sayyiduna Mu'adh asked: Then for what reason do you love me? I replied: For the pleasure of Allah Almighty. The narrator says: He pulled the edge of my cloak and then said: If you are truthful, then receive this glad tidings. I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Those who love each other for the sake of Allah will be under the shade of the Throne on the Day when there will be no shade except His Throne, and the Prophets and martyrs will envy their status." The narrator says: I left from there and went to Sayyiduna 'Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him). I narrated to him the hadith that Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) had narrated, so Sayyiduna 'Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) narrate from his Lord: "(Allah Almighty says:) My love has become obligatory for those who love each other for My sake. My love has become obligatory for those who show goodwill to each other for My sake. My love has become obligatory for those who visit each other for My sake. My love has become obligatory for those who spend on each other for My sake. These people will be on pulpits of light, and the Prophets and the truthful will envy their status." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The narrator named Abu Muslim Khawlani is Abdullah bin Thawb. He is Yamani and a Tabi'i. He is among the virtuous and best of the Tabi'in. He is the one to whom 'Ansi said: Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah? He replied: No. He ('Ansi) asked: Do you testify that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah? He replied: Yes. By the order of 'Ansi, a large fire was lit, and he was threatened that he would be thrown into it if he did not support him in his claim, but he did not accept it. So he ('Ansi) threw him into the fire, but the fire did not harm him. 'Ansi considered this a great matter. By his order, he was sent to Yemen. He was expelled from there, so he came to Madinah Munawwarah, where he met Sayyiduna 'Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). He asked him: Where have you come from? He informed him about this. Sayyiduna 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: What happened to that young man who was burned? He replied: He was not burned. Sayyiduna 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) realized that he was the one. Sayyiduna 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I ask you by Allah's name, are you Abu Muslim? He replied: Yes. So Sayyiduna 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) took his hand and brought him to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and narrated the whole incident to him, and both of them were very happy about it. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "All praise is due to Allah, who has shown us in this Ummah a person who was burned like Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him), but was not burned." It is also narrated: His wife was very beautiful. One of his neighbors tried to corrupt this woman, so he supplicated against her: O Allah! Whoever wants to corrupt my wife, make her blind. That woman was sitting with her husband eating dinner. During this, she asked: Have you put out the lamp? Her husband replied: No. She said: I have become blind. I cannot see anything. Then she was informed about the supplication of Abu Muslim against her, so she came to him and said: I tried to do such and such regarding your wife. I also deceived her. Now I repent. Please supplicate to Allah Almighty to return my sight. He prayed to Allah and said: O Allah! Return the sight of this woman, so Allah Almighty returned her sight.
