Chapter on Companionship and Sitting – Recommendation to seek blessings from the righteous and similar people
Hadith 558
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ بُرَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَازِلا بِالْجِعْرَانَةِ ، بَيْنَ مَكَّةَ وَالْمَدِينَةِ ، وَمَعَهُ بِلالٌ ، فَأَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، رَجُلٌ أَعْرَابِيٌّ ، فقَالَ : أَلا تُنْجِزُ لِي يَا مُحَمَّدُ مَا وَعَدْتَنِي ؟ فقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَبْشِرْ ، فقَالَ لَهُ الأَعْرَابِيُّ : لَقَدْ أَكْثَرْتَ عَلَيَّ مِنَ الْبُشْرَى ، قَالَ : فَأَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى أَبِي مُوسَى ، وَبِلالٍ كَهَيْئَةِ الْغَضْبَانِ ، فقَالَ : " إِنَّ هَذَا قَدْ رَدَّ الْبُشْرَى ، فَاقْبَلا أَنْتُمَا " فَقَالا : قَبْلِنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : فَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِقَدَحٍ فِيهِ مَاءٌ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُمَا : " اشْرَبَا مِنْهُ ، وَأَفْرِغَا عَلَى وُجُوهِكُمَا أَوْ نُحُورِكُمَا " فَأَخَذَا الْقَدَحَ فَفَعَلا مَا أَمَرَهُمَا بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَنَادَتْنَا أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ مِنْ وَرَاءِ السِّتْرِ أَنْ أَفْضِلا لأُمِّكُمَا فِي إِنَائِكُمَا ، فَأَفْضَلا لَهَا مِنْهُ طَائِفَةً .
Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was present with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). He was descending towards the lower side at the place of "Ji'ranah" between Makkah and Madinah. Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) was also with him. A Bedouin came before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), will you not fulfill the promise you made to me? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: Accept the glad tidings. The Bedouin said to him: You have already given me many glad tidings. The narrator states: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) in a state of anger and said: This person has rejected the glad tidings, so you both accept them. Both of them said: O Messenger of Allah! We accept them. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called for a bowl in which there was water. Then he said to both of them: Drink from it and pour it over your chests and faces. Both of them took the bowl and did as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had instructed them. From behind the curtain, Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) called out to them: Save some for your mother from your vessel. So both of them saved a little water for her as well.
