Chapter on Companionship and Sitting – Report refuting the claim that this report was meant for a specific group only
Hadith 557
أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى ، قَالَ : أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلٌ ، فقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَرَأَيْتَ رَجُلا يُحِبُّ الْقَوْمَ وَلَمَّا يَلْحَقْ بِهِمْ ؟ قَالَ : " الْمَرْءُ مَعَ مَنْ أَحَبَّ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). He asked: What is your opinion about a person who loves a people, but is not able to join them? The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A person will be with those whom he loves."
