Chapter on Gentleness – Instruction to always be gentle, as persistence in gentleness is an adornment in this life and the next
Hadith 551
أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ ، بِطَرَسُوسَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا نُوحُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ الْبَذَشِيُّ الْقُومِسِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَا كَانَ الرِّفْقُ فِي شَيْءٍ إِلا زَانَهُ ، وَلا كَانَ الْفُحْشُ فِي شَيْءٍ قَطُّ إِلا شَانَهُ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "Gentleness, wherever it is found, adorns it; and obscenity (that is, harshness), wherever it is found, spoils it."
