Section on Righteousness and Kindness – Recommendation to show kindness to animals in hope of salvation in the Hereafter
Hadith 546
أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْجُرْجَانِيُّ بِحَلَبَ ، حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الأَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " عُذِّبَتِ امْرَأَةٌ فِي هِرَّةٍ رَبَطَتْهَا ، فَلَمْ تُطْعِمْهَا ، وَلَمْ تَدَعْهَا تَأْكُلُ مِنْ خَشَاشِ الأَرْضِ " . أَخْبَرْنَاهُ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ فِي عَقِبِهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الأَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، بِمِثْلِهِ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "A woman was punished because of a cat which she had tied up, and she neither gave it anything to eat nor did she let it go so that it could eat from the earth itself." The same narration is also transmitted with another chain from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him).
