Section on Righteousness and Kindness – Allah’s reward for one who gives water to every living creature
Hadith 542
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ ، أَنَّ سُرَاقَةَ بْنَ جُعْشُمٍ ، قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ الضَّالَّةُ تَرِدُ عَلَى حَوْضِي ، فَهَلْ فِيهَا أَجْرٌ إِنْ سَقَيْتُهَا ؟ قَالَ : " اسْقِهَا ، فَإِنَّ فِي كُلِّ ذَاتِ كَبِدٍ حَرَّى أَجْرًا " .
Sayyiduna Mahmud bin Rabi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Suraqah bin Ju’sham (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted: O Messenger of Allah! If a lost camel comes to my pond and I give it water to drink, will there be a reward for that? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Give it water to drink, for there is a reward in doing good to every living being.”
