Section on Righteousness and Kindness – Clarification that the man who removed a thorny branch from the road did no other good deed
Hadith 538
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الْكَتَّانِيُّ بِالأُبُلَّةِ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الصَّبَّاحِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " حُوسِبَ رَجُلٌ مِمَّنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ ، فَلَمْ يُوجَدْ لَهُ مِنَ الْخَيْرِ إِلا غُصْنُ شَوْكٍ كَانَ عَلَى الطَّرِيقِ كَانَ يُؤْذِي النَّاسَ ، فَعَزَلَهُ ، فَغُفِرَ لَهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “A man from among the people before you was brought to account, and in his record of deeds no good was found except for a thorny branch. That branch was lying on a path and was causing harm to people, so the man removed it from the way. Because of this, he was forgiven.”
