Section on Righteousness and Kindness – Information about the best and worst people for themselves and others
Hadith 528
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنِ الْعَلاءِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ : أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَفَ عَلَى نَاسٍ جُلُوسٍ ، فقَالَ : " أَلا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخَيْرِكُمْ مِنْ شَرِّكُمْ " ؟ قَالَ : فَسَكَتُوا ، قَالَ ذَلِكَ ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ، فقَالَ رَجُلٌ : بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَخْبِرْنَا بِخَيْرِنَا مِنْ شَرِّنَا ، قَالَ : " خَيْرُكُمْ مَنْ يُرْجَى خَيْرُهُ وَيُؤْمَنُ شَرُّهُ ، وَشَرُّكُمْ مَنْ لا يُرْجَى خَيْرُهُ ، وَلا يُؤْمَنُ شَرُّهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped by some people who were sitting and said: Shall I not tell you about your good or bad people? The narrator states: He remained silent for a while. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times, so one man said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! Tell us about our good and bad people. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The best among you are those from whom good is expected and from whose evil people are safe, and the worst among you are those from whom good is not expected and from whose evil people are not safe.
