Hadith 502
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السَّامِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ الْمَقَابِرِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الْيَهُودَ إِذَا سَلَّمُوا عَلَيْكُمْ إِنَّمَا يَقُولُ أَحَدُهُمُ : السَّامُ عَلَيْكَ ، فَقُلْ وَعَلَيْكَ " .
Abdullah bin Dinar narrates: He heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) stating that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the Jews greet you, one of them says: 'As-Saamu Alaik' (meaning: death be upon you), so you should say: 'Wa Alaik' (and upon you)."
