Chapter on Spreading Peace and Feeding Others – The one who initiates the greeting is better in Allah’s sight.
Hadith 498
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُوسَى عَبْدَانُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَعْمَرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لِيُسَلِّمِ الرَّاكِبُ عَلَى الْمَاشِي ، وَالْمَاشِي عَلَى الْقَاعِدِ ، وَالْمَاشِيَانِ أَيُّهُمَا بَدَأَ فَهُوَ أَفْضَلُ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A rider should greet the one who is walking, the one who is walking should greet the one who is sitting, and among two people walking, the one who greets first will have greater virtue."
