Chapter on Forgiveness – One must practice forgiveness and not repay evil with evil.
Hadith 487
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الأَزْدِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ أُحُدٍ ، أُصِيبَ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ أَرْبَعَةٌ وَسَبْعُونَ ، وَمِنْهُمْ سِتَّةٌ فِيهِمْ حَمْزَةُ ، فَمَثَّلُوا بِهِمْ فَقَالَتِ الأَنْصَارُ : لَئِنْ أَصَبْنَا مِنْهُمْ يَوْمًا لَنُرْبِيَنَّ عَلَيْهِمْ ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ ، أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ : وَإِنْ عَاقَبْتُمْ فَعَاقِبُوا بِمِثْلِ مَا عُوقِبْتُمْ بِهِ وَلَئِنْ صَبَرْتُمْ لَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لِلصَّابِرينَ سورة النحل آية 126 َ ، فقَالَ رَجُلٌ : لا قُرَيْشَ بَعْدَ الْيَوْمِ ، فقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كُفُّوا عَنِ الْقَوْمِ غَيْرَ أَرْبَعَةٍ " .
Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the day of the Battle of Uhud, seventy-four men from the Ansar were martyred, and among them, six men were martyred, one of whom was Sayyiduna Hamza (may Allah be pleased with him). Those (disbelieving) people mutilated their bodies, so the Ansar said: If one day we gain dominance over them, we will also take full revenge on them. When the occasion of the conquest of Makkah came, Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "If you want to punish, then punish in the same manner as you were treated, but if you are patient, then patience is better for those who are patient." A person said: After today, the Quraysh will not remain at all. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not kill anyone except four people.
