Chapter on Good Character – Piety and good character are among the main reasons people enter Paradise.
Hadith 476
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْكَرْخِيُّ ، بِبَلَدِ الْمَوْصِلِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ إِدْرِيسَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَا أَكْثَرُ مَا يُدْخِلُ النَّاسَ الْجَنَّةَ ؟ قَالَ : " تَقْوَى اللَّهِ ، وَحُسْنُ الْخُلُقِ " قِيلَ : فَمَا أَكْثَرُ مَا يُدْخِلُ النَّاسَ النَّارَ ؟ قَالَ : " الأَجْوَفَانِ : الْفَمُ وَالْفَرْجُ " ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : ابْنُ إِدْرِيسَ هَذَا اسْمُهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الزَّعَافِرِيُّ الأَوْدِيُّ مِنْ ثِقَاتِ الْكُوفَةِ وَمُتْقِنِيهِمْ ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ فِي عَصْرِهِ بِالْكُوفَةِ مَنْ لا يَشْرَبُ غَيْرُهُ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked, "Which thing is it due to which most people will enter Paradise?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "The fear of Allah and good character." It was asked, "Which thing is it that will cause most people to enter Hell?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The two things with holes: the mouth and the private parts."
Imam Ibn Hibban (may Allah have mercy on him) says: (The narrator named Ibn Idris is Abdullah bin Idris bin Yazid bin Abdur Rahman Za’afiri Awdi. He was from Kufa, among the trustworthy and precise individuals. In his time, there was no one else in Kufa who did not have this disposition.)
