Chapter on Mercy – Warning against failing to respect elders or show mercy to young Muslims.
Hadith 464
أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ مُجَاشِعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي بَشِيرٍ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، رَفَعَهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ لَمْ يُوَقِّرِ الْكَبِيرَ ، وَيَرْحَمِ الصَّغِيرَ ، وَيَأْمُرْ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ ، وَيَنْهَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates this as a marfu’ hadith to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: “He is not one of us who does not respect the elder, does not show mercy to the younger, does not enjoin good, and does not forbid evil.”
