Chapter on Mercy – Guarantee of Paradise for one who cares for orphans justly and avoids wrongdoing.
Hadith 460
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَنَا وَكَافِلُ الْيَتِيمِ فِي الْجَنَّةِ هَكَذَا ، وَأَشَارَ بِالسَّبَّابَةِ وَالْوُسْطَى " ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : قَوْلُهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " هَكَذَا " أَرَادَ بِهِ فِي دُخُولِ الْجَنَّةِ ، لا أَنَّ كَافِلَ الْيَتِيمِ تَكُونُ مَرْتَبَتُهُ مَعَ مَرْتَبَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَاحِدَةً .
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I and the one who takes care of an orphan will be in Paradise like this.” The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) indicated with his index and middle fingers (while saying this).
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): “like this,” refers to being admitted into Paradise. It does not mean that the person who takes care of an orphan and the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) will be at the same rank in Paradise.
