Chapter on Ties of Kinship and Severing Them – Description of who is truly considered one who maintains family ties.
Hadith 445
أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ الْعِجْلِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى ، عَنْ فِطْرٍ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الرَّحِمُ مُعَلَّقَةٌ بِالْعَرْشِ ، وَلَيْسَ الْوَاصِلُ بِالْمُكَافِئِ ، وَلَكِنَّ الْوَاصِلَ الَّذِي إِذَا انْقَطَعَتْ رَحِمُهُ وَصَلَهَا " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The womb (ties of kinship) is hanging from the Throne, and the one who does good in return for good is not considered as maintaining the ties of kinship. The one who truly maintains the ties of kinship is the person who, when his ties of kinship are severed, still maintains them."
