Chapter on Parents’ Rights – Honoring the father’s friends after his death is like maintaining ties with him in his grave.
Hadith 432
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هُدْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَزْمُ بْنُ أَبِي حَزْمٍ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ ، قَالَ : قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ ، فَأَتَانِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، فقَالَ : أَتَدْرِي لِمَ أَتَيْتُكَ ؟ قَالَ : قُلْتُ لا ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " مَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يَصِلَ أَبَاهُ فِي قَبْرِهِ ، فَلْيَصِلْ إِخْوَانَ أَبِيهِ بَعْدَهُ " وَإِنَّهُ كَانَ بَيْنَ أَبِي عُمَرَ وَبَيْنَ أَبِيكَ إِخَاءٌ وَوُدٌّ ، فَأَحْبَبْتُ أَنْ أَصِلَ ذَاكَ .
Abu Burdah narrates: I came to Madinah Munawwarah. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) came to me. He asked: Do you know why I have come to you? I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever wishes to treat his father well in his grave, he should treat his father's brothers well after his father." (Ibn Umar said) There was brotherhood and friendship between my father, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and your father, so I wish to treat you well in this regard.
