Hadith 425
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيِّ : أَنَّ رَجُلا أَتَى أَبَا الدَّرْدَاءِ ، فقَالَ : إِنَّ أَبِي لَمْ يَزَلْ بِي حَتَّى تَزَوَّجْتُ ، وَإِنَّهُ الآنَ يَأْمُرُنِي بِطَلاقِهَا ، قَالَ : مَا أَنَا بِالَّذِي آمُرُكَ أَنْ تَعُقَّ وَالِدَكَ ، وَلا أَنَا بِالَّذِي آمُرُكَ أَنْ تُطَلِّقَ امْرَأَتَكَ ، غَيْرَ أَنَّكَ إِنْ شِئْتَ ، حَدَّثْتُكَ مَا سَمِعْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، سَمِعْتُهُ ، يَقُولُ : " الْوَالِدُ أَوْسَطُ أَبْوَابِ الْجَنَّةِ ، فَحَافِظْ عَلَى ذَلِكَ إِنْ شِئْتَ ، أَوْ دَعْ " ، قَالَ : فَأَحْسِبُ عَطَاءً ، قَالَ : فَطَلَّقَهَا .
Abu Abdur Rahman Salmi narrates: A man came to Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: My father insisted a lot and got me married, and now he is telling me to divorce this woman. Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I will not instruct you to disobey your father, nor will I tell you to divorce your wife. However, if you wish, I can tell you what I heard from the tongue of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I heard him say: "The father is the middle gate of the gates of Paradise; now if you wish, protect it, and if you wish, leave it."
