Chapter on Parents’ Rights – Striving in honoring parents means excelling in their service.
Hadith 421
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَعْلَى بْنُ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، أَنَّ رَجُلا ، قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَتَأْذَنُ لِي فِي الْجِهَادِ ، قَالَ : " أَلَكَ وَالِدَانِ " ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : " اذْهَبْ فَبِرَّهُمَا " فَذَهَبَ وَهُوَ يَحْمِلُ الرِّكَابَ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! Do you permit me to go for jihad?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, "Do you have parents?" He replied, "Yes." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Go and treat them well." So the man left, even though he had come holding his stirrup.
