Chapter on Acts of Obedience and Their Rewards – One must aim for moderation and be optimistic about the results.
Hadith 358
سَمِعْتُ الْفَضْلَ بْنَ الْحُبَابِ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ بَكْرِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ الرَّبِيعَ بْنَ مُسْلِمٍ يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدًا ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ، يَقُولُ : مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى رَهْطٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ يَضْحَكُونَ ، فقَالَ : " لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ مَا أَعْلَمُ ، لَضَحِكْتُمْ قَلِيلا ، وَلَبَكَيْتُمْ كَثِيرًا " فَأَتَاهُ جِبْرِيلُ ، فقَالَ : إِنَّ اللَّهَ ، قَالَ لَكَ : لِمَ تُقَنِّطُ عِبَادِي ؟ قَالَ : فَرَجَعَ إِلَيْهِمْ وَقَالَ : " سَدِّدُوا وَأَبْشِرُوا " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by some of his companions who were laughing. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much. Then Sayyiduna Jibreel came to him and said: Allah Almighty has said to you: Why are you making My servants despair? The narrator states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went back to those people and said: Remain steadfast and receive glad tidings.
