Chapter on Acts of Obedience and Their Rewards – Command to be moderate in obedience and not overburden oneself.
Hadith 357
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى الْمَوْصِلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْقُمِّيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ جَارِيَةَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، عَلَى رَجُلٍ قَائِمٍ يُصَلِّي عَلَى صَخْرَةٍ ، فَأَتَى نَاحِيَةَ مَكَّةَ ، فَمَكَثَ مَلِيًّا ، ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ فَوَجَدَ الرَّجُلَ عَلَى حَالِهِ يُصَلِّي ، فَجَمَعَ يَدَيْهِ ، ثُمَّ ، قَالَ : " أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْقَصْدِ ، عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْقَصْدِ ، فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لا يَمَلُّ حَتَّى تَمَلُّوا " .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a man who was standing on a rock performing prayer. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to one side of Makkah (for some task) and stayed there for a little while. When he returned, he saw that man still in the same state, performing prayer. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) clasped his hands together and said: "O people! You must adopt moderation, you must adopt moderation. Indeed, Allah does not get tired, but you do get tired."
